Repetitive tasks, office politics, endless meetings that could’ve been emails… sometimes it’s a miracle we even log on. But apparently, humans need progress to feel happy (who knew?). So how do we stay motivated without quitting, crying, or rage-applying on LinkedIn?

Start small. Set yourself achievable goals and break the big stuff into bite-sized chunks. Nothing kills motivation faster than staring at a mountain of work with no idea where to begin. Celebrate the milestones, however tiny — tick something off your list and give yourself a smug little cheer.

Find meaning where you can. Some tasks will never spark joy, but connecting what you do with your values, your team, or your long-term goals can make even the duller bits more bearable. Check in with yourself: is this work moving you closer to where you want to be? If yes, great. If not, maybe it’s simply funding the dream holiday — also valid.

Stay organised, or at least fake it with lists, calendars, or time-blocking. Watch out for time-stealers (yes, Steve’s rambling “quick chat” counts) and carve out space for actual focused work. Add growth where possible: new skills, new challenges, proper feedback from people who actually care about your development. It’ll make things feel less same-old, same-old.

And don’t underestimate the power of your environment. Positive relationships with colleagues can make or break your workday. Equally, your wellbeing matters — step away from your desk, hydrate (not just with coffee), move your body, and for the love of Mondays, get some sleep. Burnout helps no one.

Focus on the wins, however small. Gratitude isn’t just for Instagram quotes — it’s a real mindset shift. Reflect on what you’ve achieved, what you’re learning, or even just the fact that your job is keeping the bills paid. Mix up your routine, tackle tasks differently, and keep an eye on what you can control, not the drama you can’t.

And when all else fails? Take a proper break. A day off, a week off, a long weekend — sometimes the best way to stay motivated is to stop for a bit. Use the time to recharge, reset, and maybe even pick up some inspiration from mentors, podcasts, or people who actually love what they do.

Your job might not always be thrilling, but with the right mix of goals, mindset, and boundaries, you can keep your motivation ticking — especially on a Monday morning. And if not? At least remind yourself: this pays for wine, holidays, and Netflix. That’s motivation enough.

Tuesday Called.
